| We wanted to find a place that was as natural and real as possible to go mining for gems for our two girls. This was it. I highly recommend Cherokee Ruby and Sapphire Mine as a family activity. Excellent service and the people were very helpful and friendly. Thank you for making our family vacation even more enjoyable. |

We had a blast on our April 2009 birthday trip! The folks at the mine were so very helpful and kind! This was my first ever gem mining experience and I still rank it first. I researched and decided that "native" is the way to go. Anyone can put FAKE stuff in the buckets! Only here will you have the joy of gems that REALLY came right out of their ground! I recommend it to everyone for a relaxing, back to nature, experience! |

Paul, Barbara, Eleanor & Tommy would like to thank you all, especially "Mom", for the great day we had on May 5th, at the mine. Bob Dinnes at Cowlee lapidary has just sent us the Sapphire pendants, made with those Paul and Eleanor found, they are beautiful, pass on our thanks to Bob. This was the celebration of all of our Ruby Weddings, coming all the way from Scotland to spend the day with you. Your help Mom in helping us identify the stones!! was greatly appreciated, you are a real "gem"!! Thanks also to your "boys" for the friendship and showing us the actual mine, we had a great week in North Carolina, such friendly people, many thanks once again for a great day in the Cowlee Valley

we would like to thank you for your helpfulness with our mining adventure. we both had fun looking for gems there. even tho i didn't have much luck in finding any big finds, heather's finds of 2 pottery shards just made her day all worth of going there. i just didn't grab the right buckets cause the guy next to us found some awesome rubies and sapphires.
i do recommend anyone who wants to work for there treasures and don't mind the time and effort of doing so to go. but if you want fast finds and no effort you better seek some where else cause this is untainted ore.
thanks again, paul craff |

| I just wanted to say hello to whomever is running the mine now. I am a former patron of the mine of many years standing. Is Effie still associated with the mine? I became friends with her and her family, and feel they are part of my family. I'm unable to visit the mine now because I am disabled. But I would love to hear from any of the people I used to chat with there. |

This was our first visit to the Cherokee Mine and we had an absolute blast. What a great little secret place! Everything was perfect from the friendly and cozy atmosphere to the pure cool creek water and clean bathrooms. Very relaxing and enjoyable experience.
Mom, her son, and Raymond were a sheer delight, very helpful and knowledgeable and only to happy to steer new folks in the right direction, look over your finds and rejects. We ended up spending 4 days at the mine, and compared to the fake disney-like atmosphere at the other salted mines the honesty was so refreshing. No Brazilian junk stones here. While it takes longer to find something, the wait is worth it. Will definitely be back, and left with some lovely finds, including a gorgeous 17-carat rhodolite and several small sapphires.
If you like to look for native gemstones, don't pass this place up, a real rockhound's treat, and memories that will last a lifetime. |

Thank you to Mom Maria and Son Ray for a great day! Although our find was small, we had such a good time. Both Maria and Raymond spent time educating us. It seemed they treated us like family, not like other mines that just want your money. Thanks again for a great Day! |

| As first timers, we hadn't a clue what we were doing. Ray & Maria were wonderfully helpful and patient with us: teaching us what to look for, looking over our discards helping us to spot what we'd missed. Even first timers can find stones worth keeping and cutting! And it's so addictive . . . just let me go through one more bucket, please! We look forward to returning! |

Our family of four visited Cherokee Mine on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. It was our first time to try our hand at gem mining, and we had a great time.
We worked through 19 buckets of dirt, in which we found a nice pink sapphire (about 2.5 carats), a moonstone, and several small garnets. Our dauther found an unusual blue stone that nobody at the mine could identify -- the gem cutter later identified it as a blue spinel crystal. In total, we're having 6 stones cut. Not bad for first timers.
The folks at the mine were helpful and very friendly. It was clear that they genuinely enjoy what they do. |
